IV Sedation

Imagine dental treatment without fear or anxiety

Beechview Dental Practice is among the pioneers of anxiety-free dentistry in Northern Island and ensures patients receive the highest levels of comfort. We offer IV Sedation Dentistry to help you receive the dental care you require conveniently and comfortably.

IV Sedation enables patients to undergo complex dental treatments (which often require six to eight appointments) in just one consultation. Depending on your individual needs, IV Sedation may last between 2 to 6 hours. You will be relaxed and at ease throughout the procedure. You are not unconscious at any time, just in a deeply relaxed state.

IV Sedation could be perfect for you if you suffer from any of the following:

» Limited time to complete dental work » Dental phobias – Fear of needles
» Difficulty getting numb » Difficulty controlling movement
» Sensitive teeth » Dental anxiety traumatic dental experiences
» Complex dental issues » Patients who have a gag reflex
» Patients who suffer from acute or chronic jaw soreness » Patients with physical limitations such as back or neck problems

During your appointment, an anaesthetic is applied to the forearm or the back of your hand, and then a sedative and often an analgesic (painkiller) is administered into the vein. It is not like a normal intramuscular injection, the injection is virtually painless. Following the sedation treatment, you will sleep lightly for a short time and there will be numbness in your mouth where any local anaesthetic was injected. Due to the sedation effect of the medication, you will need someone to escort you home after treatment is completed.

IV Sedation is a very safe procedure. Sedation performed in dental surgeries by qualified Dentists has an excellent safety record. When the patient is in good health the risk of a serious reaction is very small.

During your consultation, our Dentists will take you through every step of your procedure to ensure that you fully understand how IV Sedation is conducted and how it can help you.
